To support a sector in difficultyAll the stakeholders in the Landes forest have been hit hard recently by hurricane Klaus and by parasites (bark beetle). They must therefore seize the genuine economic and environmental opportunity provided by energy wood activities.
Local people, foresters, industrialists, authorities and institutions must all work together to take up this opportunity to diversify outlets for our forests and boost a sector that has suffered greatly since 2009.
Worldwide, we still rely on fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil...) for 80% of our energy needs.
And yet we must prepare for a decline in these fossil energy sources and try to hand over as well-preserved a world as possible to future generations.
A new business sector in the LandesSolarezo has made the strategic choice of contributing to the emergence of a new sector in the Landes forests: an energy wood sector capable of being a regional powerhouse. This environmental policy is based on the wood storage platform created in Ygos-Saint-Saturnin in 2010 with the support of the Landes Préfecture, the DRAAF (Regional Department for Food, Agriculture and Forestry), Landes Local Council, Aquitaine Regional Council and the ADEME.
A certain number of steps and investments are being made to work towards creating this activity. Solarezo is signing sourcing contracts with key stakeholders in the Landes forests. It is also taking part in replanting initiatives dedicated to producing energy wood.
In addition to the Ygos-Saint-Saturnin wood storage platform, Solarezo is also working on a cogeneration project (steam and electricity) in Vielle-Saint-Girons aiming to enhance the competitive edge of Landes industry.
